Moraine Lake to Lake O'Hara

  • 25km

  • 8-10 hours

  • Max elevation 2600m

  • Elevation gain 1350m

  • Elevation loss 1200m

  • 1/2 on trail 1/2 off trail

  • Glacier and snow crossing

  • lots of scree and loose rock running

Starting at Moraine Lake and finishing at Lake O'Hara this trip has it all!  Good trails, amazing views, rugged off trial running, and even a glacier crossing.  Only suitable for those looking for a real adventure.  From Moraine Lake a steady climb up switchbacks to 2200m where the trail flattens out for 7km until we do the final climb to our high point at Wenkchemna pass (2600m).  The trail ends here as we scree run down to the Eagles Eyrie, head cross country under the impressive east face of Mt. Biddle and across a small glacier to Opabin Pass.  The adventure ramps up here as we descend down onto Opabin Glacier, and rock hop back to the trails of Lake O'hara which can test even the most hardy of mountain runners.  Luckily, once here, its an easy 5km's of alpine meadows and lakes to the end of our day and a bus ride out.  If you're lucky there will be some carrot cake left at the bus stop!
